Personal Porters are $720.
Australian Battlefield Treks and Tours employ group carriers to carry the collective trekking equipment including all food, safety equipment and all individual tents.
These carriers are not employed to carry your personal items of clothing or sleeping gear.
There is an option to employ a Personal Porter to carry your personal items, including your sleeping gear, changes of clothes, washing gear, snacks, and other essential items for the days ahead.
By employing a Personal Porter, you will assist with putting food on the table of one of our PNG families. Your Porter will assist you in negotiating difficult parts of the trail and will become your new “best friend” in PNG.
If you employ a Personal Porter you will also be provided with a large backpack for your personal gear which means you will only need to bring and therefore carry a smaller day pack (6 - 7 kg) each day with all of your essential items in it.
Your Porter will receive the following in wages and benefits:
K100 per day as a wage (well above the award wage in PNG)
A uniform including 2 x T-Shirts, a pair of shorts and a cap
A sleeping bag and a sleeping mat
A fly home allowance of K300
They will carry a maximum of 18 kg (12 kg of your gear and 6 kg of their own gear)
All meals during the trek

These variations will NOT be charged to you AFTER your full payment has been received.
Tour Variation
PNG is known as “the land of the unexpected”. It is a developing nation and, as such, Australian Battlefield Treks and Tours cannot accept responsibility for accident, loss, injury, disappointment, delays in flights or transportation, or other services provided on your trip.
Applications for any refunds due to unforeseen circumstances must be made in writing. Any claim must be limited to the cost of the service. Australian Battlefield Treks and Tours does not accept liability for any additional costs for airline or transportation delays.
In the event of any legal action against Australian Battlefield Treks and Tours, the client/travel agent agrees, where and/or by accepting travel documents, that such action will take place under the laws of the independent nation of Papua New Guinea.
Trek Itinerary Variations
Australian Battlefield Treks and Tours reserves the right to:
change the direction of the trek from Owers Corner to Kokoda, or from Kokoda to Owers Corner; and
make any variations to the trek itinerary in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
Personal Porters
If you are not in peak physical condition, you are strongly advised to engage a Personal Porter prior to your departure from Australia.
If you are required to engage a Personal Porter during your trek, you will be required to pay the full fee regardless of when the Personal Porter is engaged. No pro-rata fee applies.
Australian Battlefield Treks and Tours cannot guarantee the engagement of Personal Porters once a trek has started.
Withdrawal from the Trek
If you have to withdraw from the trek for medical or any other reason, you will be required to return to Australia on the first available international flight.

Personal Health Requirements
The Kokoda Trail crosses the rugged and remote Owen Stanley ranges in Papua New Guinea. The trek across the trail is a physically arduous challenge in a hot, humid and wet tropical environment. You therefore need to have a high standard of physical fitness and be free of physical ailments and handicaps.
Medical
You are advised to consult your Medical Doctor to arrange for a complete health check-up and fitness test due to the remote and physically challenging nature of the trek across the Kokoda Trail.
